Papillion, Neb. – Oct. 16, 2017 – You know that cliché about one person’s trash being another’s treasure?

Well, there’s some truth to that — at least when it comes to energy.

You probably know that renewable energy can come in many forms, like solar panels or wind turbines.

But it can also come from a landfill.

Black Hills Energy is building a 3.5-mile steel pipeline to deliver natural gas processed from biogas from the Sarpy County Landfill to homes and businesses in Sarpy County.

“Renewable natural gas is an environmentally responsible use of the methane produced by the landfill,” said Jeff Sylvester, the company’s vice president of Nebraska operations. “This project will allow Nebraskans to now use renewable natural gas to heat their homes and fuel their businesses.”

Black Hills Energy expects the new gas line to be operational by the end of the year.
