Groovin' to the (safe dig) beat in Wichita, Kansas
safe digging kansas

Despite soaring temperatures, more than a dozen Black Hills Energy Wichita employees turned out to support the Kansas 811 Run.

The annual family-friendly event brings excavators, gas utilities and sport vendors from across the Wichita area to bring awareness to Kansas 811 damage prevention efforts. Race participants may browse vendor booths, grab a snack from one of the food trucks, or try out the bounce house before the race.

This year’s Black Hills Energy psychedelic booth featured 1970’s banners and props, and each employee was decked out in a tie-dye shirt.

Among the goodies passed out to participants, one new feature to this year’s Black Hills Energy booth was a social media giveaway: check out the hashtag “#blackhillsenergy” on Facebook to see what participants won.

“Having the opportunity to interact with our customers and convey the message of safe digging is very important.”

Kansas Pipeline Integrity Coordinator, Mike Muñoz, said that although the 811 Run is always a good time, he is reminded of the importance of connecting with our communities to educate them about 811 resources. Muñoz said, “Having the opportunity to interact with our customers and convey the message of safe digging is very important.”
