Team saves a pup on a three dog night in Cody, Wyoming

At Black Hills Energy, leaving no one in the cold means leaving NO ONE in the cold!

The week of February 8 brought arctic temperatures to Cody, Wyoming with daytime temperatures far below zero. Our team worked diligently to make sure our customers had the energy they depend on to stay warm.

During the cold snap, we tracked an abandoned dog as she made her way across the county searching for food and shelter. We worried about her safety and wanted to do something to help.

Our office became an unofficial incident command center to help the community bring this dog to safety. Through careful watch we were able to secure this dog on one of the coldest days and bring her indoors for a warm-up and some much-needed food.

One of our technicians even stepped up and agreed to foster the dog until she is back to full health. She is doing well; gaining weight and getting lots of love.

We partner with our communities and customers, providing the kind of energy that fuels those areas and the lives of those we serve. Feel free to share the stories and photos. Make sure to tag us on FacebookInstagram, LinkedIn and Twitter.

holiday lights
When it came to lighting up his home for the holidays, Clark Griswold stopped it nothing to make sure his place was the brightest on the block. Griswold, who was the star of the 1989 holiday classic National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, was determined to have a “fun, old-fashioned, family…

The holiday season is upon us. It’s time to bring out the fine china, hang up the Christmas lights and get cozy around the hearth. But before you take part in all of the merriment, here are some simple safety tips to help make sure you enjoy the entire season. How to safely bring out the fine…
Replace furnace filter
The signs were all around me when I made a quick shopping trip this week. Snow boots are taking the place of sandals in the shoe section. Gallon jugs of apple cider are taking over the store displays where sweet summer lemonade once enjoyed prime real estate. Christmas trees have even taken over…

It’s spooky season! And while I’m happy to hand out treats to all of the little ghosts and goblins who come to my front door on Halloween, I’m not too keen on the vampires lurking around my home. It’s likely you have vampires in your home, too – energy vampires, to be exact. The Department of…

air conditioner maintenance
Thank you, air conditioner. You’ve been my rock this summer, always there when I needed you. You were up before dawn, keeping my home a nice 71 degrees so my family could sleep through the night. You worked to cool down the house before we got home from the pool. So it makes it a bit awkward to…
cleaning ac
I don’t usually pay much attention to my air conditioner. I switch it on in the summer when I need it, and I forget about during fall, winter and spring. But it turns out, I’m doing it wrong. After a long, hot summer spent keeping me comfortable, my air conditioner deserves a little extra…
fan
Let’s be honest: when it comes to cooling my home, I care much more about comfort than I do about cost. If it’s blazing hot outside, I’ll crank my air conditioner way down without thinking twice. It isn’t until my electric bill arrives that I realize the effects of turning my living room in to an…
