Transmission projects

We are committed to providing safe, reliable electric service to all of our customers. To ensure the grid remains reliable 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, we make strategic infrastructure investments. We plan years in advance to make sure you have the energy you need, when you need it. As such, we have a variety of projects planned or underway to install the equipment necessary to transmit electricity to your home or your business.

Colorado Electric

No later than April 30 of each year, each electric utility shall file with the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (the “Commission”) its proposed new construction or extension of transmission facilities for the next three calendar years, commencing with the year following the filing. The purpose of this filing is to advise the Commission of planned transmission system development and inform their decision as to whether those projects require a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (“CPCN”) or are considered in the ordinary course of business. This report covers 2021 and the three-year planning period 2022 through 2024.

For more information regarding the details of the projects please view the 2021 Rule 3206 Report: Proceeding No. 21M-0005E.

Transmission line siting process

Starting a new transmission line project is a process we take seriously. We look at a number of things when siting a line, like cost, land use, number of and proximity to residences, environmental sensitivities, and cultural or historical areas. We typically use a five step process for siting our transmission projects.
